The lecturers and students from our department are involved in various interesting and lively campus activities. We welcome your involvement in all our activities! The following features highlights of some of the activities.

Jan-June 2014

Highlights: Malay Literature Assessment workshop by Master Teacher (Mr Muslim Hanafiah), Malay Literature Teaching and Learning Package Exhibition by Final Year BA students, Moral Education Lesson Exhibition by Diploma Year 1 students, Outdoor and Experiential Learning by BA and Diploma students in various courses including a trip to Pulau Penyengat, Riau Indonesia.

July-December 2013

Various sessions by teacher-practitioners and experts in their own fields are invited to share their experiences and knowledge with student teachers. These sessions are organised periodically to enrich students' campus life.

Jan-June 2013

Seminar Pendita Dr. Muhammad Ariff Ahmad - MAS Yang Kukenal organised by the department with the support of NLB, was held on Saturday, 26th January 2013 at NLB. The seminar featured over ten discussions on the contributions of Dr Muhammad Ariff Ahmad in various fields. Two renowned invited speakers were Professor Emeritus Abdullah Hassan (Malaysia) and Dr Tenas Effendy (Indonesia).

The Jalinan-Budi Seminar Series 2013 organised by the department featured insightful sharings by Dr Azhar Ibrahim Alwee and Ms Humairah Bte Zainal.

Jan-Sept 2012

The Jalinan-Budi Seminar Series 2012 organised by the department promises exciting and fresh perspectives from renowned scholars generating interest in research and inquiry, especially in the areas of Malay education, language, literature and culture.

March 2012

July 2012

A symposium on Standard Malay Language Pronounciation was organized by the Malay Language and Culture Department NIE on 4th July 2012 in conjunction with Malay Language Month 2012. The symposium aimed to solidify the use of standard Malay Language pronounciation and ensure its continuity in Singapore's education system. Three papers were presented in this symposium:
1) Menelusuri Sejarah Pembakuan Sebutan Bahasa Melayu by Associate Professor Dr Roksana Bibi Abdullah
2) Perancangan Sebutan Baku: Tinjauan Terhadap Kerasionalan by Mr Mohd Aidil Subhan Bin Mohd Sulor
3) Sebutan Fonemik: Satu Penyelesaian Pragmatik Permasalahan Sebutan Baku by Associate Professor Dr Paitoon M.Chaiyanara

September 2012

Perbayu NTU with the support of the Malay Language and Culture Division, Asian Languages and Cultures Academic Group, NIE organised the 2012 Hari Raya Celebration at LT8, NIE on the 5th of September 2012.

On the 5th of September 2012, a Malay literature teachers sharing session was organised for students from the Teaching of Malay Literature modules with the aim to
expose participants to experience and skills in the teaching of Malay literature in secondary schools in Singapore.
Topic: Malay literary activities and programs in secondary schools and its challenges
Presenter: Mr Muslim Hanafiah (Lead Teacher, Yusof Ishak Sec Sch), Madam Rasidah Mohd Rasit (Subject Head, Tanjong Katong Sec Sch, Mr Sazali Sahri (Subject Head, Bukit Panjang Govt High Sch)

On the 6th of September 2012, a Teacher-writer sharing session was organised for students from the Teaching of Malay literature module and any teacher trainee interested
with the aim of gaining knowledge from a teacher-writer.
Topic: The relevance of literature in career in education
Presenter: Mr Roslie Buang Sidik (Head of Dept For Languages and Aesthetics, Fernvale Pri Sch), who is a teacher and also a writer.
