Teaching Fellow, Mdm Nor Hanisah Saphari joined the NIE Asian Languages and Cultures Academic group in June 2010 Previously, she served in the Ministry of Education of Singapore as a Mother Tongue and Literature teacher. Throughout her career as a teacher, she taught in primary schools, secondary schools and junior colleges. In addition to teaching Mother Tongue and Literature, she was also assigned to supervise students' Project Work at 'A' level.

At school she was a leader of an Action Research Group that focused on the use of graphics as a a tool for the writing of Mother Tongue essays. She was also entrusted to mentor new teachers entering the service at the schools she taught. She was given several awards to recognize her outstanding achievement and performance in education and teaching. In addition to teaching at the school, she also made presentations and attended sharing sessions at home and abroad. Among these sessions, included a partnership with the school principal and teachers in Purbalingga, Indonesia.

She received her Certificate of Education (Malay Language Specialisation) from Singapore's Institute of Education in 1991 and later went on and received a Bachelors Degree (with Honors) from the Department of Southeast Asian Studies, National University of Singapore in 2002. In 2008, she obtained a Master's degree in Education and is the recipient of the Singapore Teachers' Association (STU) Gold Award), which recognizes outstanding achievement in her course.

To meet the needs of her Masters degree courss, she has carried out a study entitled "Experential Learning: Its Effectiveness in Anthropology Project Case Studies on a group of Year One students at a junior college in Singapore."

Among the courses taught at NIE, include the Teaching of Literature, Language Curriculum: Approaches and Skills, and Moral Education. These courses are offered to trainee teachers at the Diploma, Degree and Postgraduate diploma levels.

Currently, Madam Hanisah is pursuing her doctoral degree in NIE. Her dissertation is entitled Values in Malay Children's Literature.
